Privacy Policy

Altro is a personal city ranking app. We collect only what we need to make the product work — your account, the cities you log, and what you choose to share with friends. This page tells you exactly what that means.
Who we are
Altro is operated by CS Ventures LLC. You can reach us at altro-travel-app@outlook.com for any questions about this policy or your data.
What we collect
We collect the information you provide to use the app:
- Account info — email address, password (stored hashed), display name, username, and optional avatar photo.
- Your travel data — the cities you log, scores you assign, attribute ratings (cuisine, walkability, etc.), tier sentiments, notes, dates, companions, and any photos you attach.
- Social activity — who you follow, your likes, your comments, and your saved/wishlist cities.
- Profile preferences — your selected home base city, profile visibility (public, friends, or private), and theme settings.
- Device data — when you enable notifications, we store an Expo push token to deliver them. We do not access your contacts, calendar, or media library unless you explicitly grant permission for a specific feature (e.g., picking an avatar photo).
What we don't collect
- Your real-time location.
- Your contacts, calendar, browsing history, or other apps' data.
- Advertising identifiers — we do not show ads and we do not sell data to advertisers.
How we use your data
We use the information above to:
- Operate your account and store your rankings, lists, and comments.
- Compute personalized recommendations based on the attributes you rate.
- Show your activity to people you've allowed to see it, per your visibility settings.
- Send notifications you've opted into (e.g., when a friend ranks a city).
- Diagnose crashes and fix bugs (anonymized error reports only — see "Service providers" below).
We do not use your data for advertising, ranking other users, or training third-party AI models.
Who can see what
You control visibility:
- Public profile — anyone using Altro can see your username, display name, avatar, and city rankings.
- Friends-only profile — only people you've approved can see your activity.
- Private profile — your data is yours alone; nothing is visible to other users.
Individual city logs also have their own visibility (public, friends, or private) so you can keep specific entries private even on a public profile.
Service providers
Altro is built on a small number of trusted services. Each receives only what it needs to do its job:
- Supabase — stores your account, rankings, photos, and social data on secure servers.
- Mapbox — renders the world map. When the map loads, Mapbox receives standard request info (e.g., IP address) needed to serve map tiles. Mapbox does not receive your account info or rankings.
- Apple TestFlight / App Store — distributes the app and provides anonymized crash reports.
- Expo — delivers over-the-air JavaScript updates and push notifications.
- Sentry (optional, when enabled) — collects anonymized crash and error reports to help us fix bugs. No personal identifiers are intentionally included.
How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account from inside the app (Settings → Delete Account), we remove your profile, rankings, lists, comments, and uploaded photos from our systems. Backups may retain copies for up to 30 days before being purged.
Your rights
- Access — you can see all your data inside the app at any time.
- Edit or delete — you can edit any ranking, delete any post, or remove your account entirely from Settings.
- Export — if you'd like a copy of your data in a portable format, email us and we'll send it.
- Questions or complaints — email altro-travel-app@outlook.com and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe.
Depending on where you live (e.g., EU, UK, California), you may have additional rights under GDPR, UK-GDPR, or CCPA. You can exercise any of these by contacting us.
Children
Altro is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data: passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text, sensitive credentials are kept in encrypted device storage, and all communication with our servers uses HTTPS. No system is perfect, but we treat your data with the care we'd want for our own.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the most recent change. If we make material changes, we'll notify you inside the app or by email before they take effect.
